ABOUT

My name is Matthew Young. I’m a video editor from Raleigh, North Carolina. I received my bachelor’s degree in Electronic media & Broadcasting with a minor in Digital Marketing from Appalachian State University.
During my time at App State, I was lucky enough to have professors that have extensive experience within the industry to mentor me. I was a part of the campus TV station where I was the director for our sports show, The A Game, as well as an editor for the senior capstone, Appalachian Weekly News (AWN). I am proficient with the Tricaster TC1 Switcher. I have experience doing field camera work, working a soundboard, and am constantly creating packages on events happening in the high country. For AWN, I volunteered every Friday morning. I would take a look at everyone's packages for the week, fix the pacing of the b-roll, color correct, and clean up anything else needed. I was also one of the videographers for campus athletics, where I was doing cameras and replay for ESPN+ broadcasts. There is no better feeling than the rush of live TV, and I was fortunate enough to experience it multiple times per week.
Since then, I have gained so much more experience working for a graphic design software company called Kittl. I am proficient with the Adobe Suite (Premiere Pro, After Effects, Audition, Photoshop, etc). I edit YouTube videos, social media deliverables, ads for Meta, and so much more. Editing videos is more than just putting clips together, it’s about telling a story with an atmosphere that matches. I strive to make my edits entertaining, informative, and visually pleasing.
Social media is something that I am fascinated by. The social media marketing landscape can be tricky to navigate, but having a minor in Digital Marketing allowed me to have a better understanding of it and how it works. Bringing new and fresh ideas is a great way to stand out, especially when they are authentic and are true to a brand’s image.
